Fairport always seems to have a core of standout players, but this year it harder to see the core having lost opportunities to shine in 2020. Still, the majority of coaches in the section feel strongly that Fairport will be in the championship game again this year. |

The Chiefs won their first title in 2014 with a 16-2 win over Fayetteville-Manlius. The Chiefs scored the opening two goals and led throughout the contest. They won the first three quarters (and tied 2-2 in the fourth). |

The Red Raiders had a two goal lead going into the final quarter before the Bees scored three unanswered goals within two minutes to get back in the lead. The Red Raiders kept up their pressure and Kole Herren scored the tying goal on a feed from Klay Stuver. Stuver was the big scorer for the day and finished with 5g-1a. |

# 2923 Fairport Wins First Title Since 2014 After losses in the Championship games to Penfield (9-8) last season and Pittsford (9-5) two years ago, the Red Raiders were bent on getting their first Section Five Title since 2014. Fairport scored five goals in the second half while holding the Hilton offense scoreless to defeat the Cadets 9-4. Key players in the success were face-off midfielder Jake Knapp and sophomore midfielder Rob Crowley. Crowley finished with 4g on the night and Knapp finished at 8/13 at the face-off. Both were named to the All Tournament Team for Fairport. Knapp’s success was even more impressive based on Hilton face-off midfielder Shawn Doran’s season. Doran finished the season at 82% with 306 wins. Before tonight, he had never had less than 50% day at the faceoff. Doran, for his performance throughout the Tournament was also named to the All Tournament Team. |

# 2878 Fairport Gives JD First Loss of the Season Fairport defeated JD for the second straight season with a 10-9 win in the first overtime period. Colin Peers scored his third goal of the night to give the Red Raiders the victory. Over the past eleven years, JD and Fairport have faced off once a year. The Rams were on a five year streak before the Red Raiders defeated them last year 14-12. Overall, JD still leads the series 7-4. This season, the Rams came into the game undefeated at 10-0. They had two close one goal wins over West Genesee (8-7) and ESM (11-10). With three minutes remaining in regulation, JD led by three 9-6 and were looking strong to keep up their undefeated season. Fairport scored three goals in the final 2:37 to send the game into overtime. Peers scored both the game tying goal as well as the overtime goal. |

Of the rest, Hilton, for the first time in program history, beat Fairport 9-8, despite a last quarter surge by the Red Raiders. The Cadets led 4-3 at the half and then scored five goals in the third to end the quarter up 9-4. The offense of Hilton was spread between eight players with Matthews Mojsej leading with 1g-2a. # 2861 Many Exciting Games Played on Thursday Thursday: DAY IN REVIEW: It was a big day, with fifteen games and many exciting matchups and when they games were all played, there were five one-goal games and a number of suprising finishes including Brighton at Victor, where they Barons won a 12-8 victory. Brockport was a 9-8 winner over Gates Chili, Greece was a 7-6 winner over Spencerport, Rush-Henrietta was a 6-5 winner over HF-L, Pittsford was an 11-10 winner over Irondequoit and Schroeder was an 8-7 winner over Penfield. Hilton beat Thomas 9-3. It was only the second time the Cadets (7-2) have won against the Titans. |

The Most Valuable Player in Class A was Jack Cummings (Penfield) and in Class C was Sam Miller (Geneva). Players were selected on the basis of their performances in the Section Five Tournaments. |
# 1430 Penfield Wins First Title Since 2012 Penfield held off a late press by Fairport to become the Class A Champions with a 9-8 win over the Red Raiders. This is the first Sectional Title for Penfield since 2013. The Patriots and Red Raiders have now face three times in the Title Game and Penfield now has a 2-1 lead. Prior to today, Fairport defeated Penfield in 2012 and Penfield defeated Fairport in 1993. |

Fairport, for example, played Corning and earned a 75% season with their win. Everyone team that played Fairport this year earned additional points toward seeding with that win. The Tournament seeding was released on Friday night and the games will begin on May 21st. Three hundred and eight games have been played thus far. Seventy out of Section games have been played. Section five teams have won forty-nine (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit ended the season at the top of their leagues. |
# 1406 Brighton, Fairport and Penn Yan Win Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: With three games on the last Wednesday, Brighton (8-7) beat HF-L (11-5) in a Monroe County Cross-Over game at Brighton. Brady McDermott scored 6g-1a and Owen Ronchetti added 3g for the Barons while goalie Caleb Green made 13 saves (59%). Penn Yan used six goals in the fisrt quarter on their way to a victory over Marcus Whitman. Conner Fingar led the Mustang offense with 5g-3a and Austin Blumbergs added 3g-3a. Fairport (11-4) took off in the third quaretr after a 3-1 half and coasted to a 10-4 win over Orchard Park (9-6) of section 6. Spencer Bell scored 3g-1a and Klay Stuver added 3g for the Red Raiders who will finish their season on Friday when they play Corning. Tim Defendis made 9 saves for the Fairport (82%). |

Sophomore midfielder Klay Stuver led the offense with seven goals and sophomore goalie Tim Defendis recorded eighteen saves (60%). Fairport advances to 7-4 while JD drops top 10-2. |

The Red Raiders consistently scored two goals in each quarter; while the Braves scored 4 goals in the second quarter and the final goal of the match. Fairport scored the opening two goals of the first quarter while their defense held the Braves scoreless for 13 minutes. |

Thomas used a goal in the last five minutes of the game to defeat Fairport 11-10 and Patrick Shanley scored an unassisted goal in the second overtime period to give Gananda the 9-8 win at Geneva. |

Pittsford fended off a last minute barrage from Fairport, Brighton saw a goal from Lukas Stanat (5g) to break their tie with Hilton and Cullen Coons scored his third goal of the game in the first overtime period to give Livonia-Avon the 17-16 win over Marcus Whitman. |
# 1354 Pittsford Holds Off Against Fairport Pittsford scored the game opener and although Fairport forced a single tie, the Panthers never trailed in their 7-6 win over the Red Raiders. Harrison Cross scored the opening goal 1:59 into the first quarter. Ryan Dumont, who led the Panthers with 2g-1a, got his assist on the opening goal. Matt Powers scored the second Panther goal less than two minutes later. The Red Raiders responded with two goals of their own to force the tie. Colin Peers and Klay Stuver scored for Fairport. |

The Red Raiders led through most of the game; however, the Cadets took their first lead of the game with 7:13 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Red Raiders scored the final goal of regulation to send the game into overtime. Forty-five seconds into the first overtime period, Brennan Maloney scored off a feed from Spencer Bell to give the Red Raiders the win. |
